Coming up to the first Anniversary of Louis' passing, it seems right for me to revisit the News page and make mention of the departure of this "Dark Giant" of Music, a true Artist to the end who overcame immensely overwhelming obstacles to produce so many unique albums, and literally thousands of concerts in his vast career. My apologies for my lack of attention to keeping you updated. Rachael

Louis Tillett, the Australian rock singer, keyboardist and saxophonist for The Wet Taxis and backing musician for Tex Perkins, as well as many other projects, has passed away aged 64.
His partner, Rachael Slattery, posted the news yesterday (13 August), a week after Tillett’s passing. “I am very sorry to have to pass on the news. One week ago, Louis Tillett passed away,” Slattery wrote on Facebook.
“Jack and I were with him to the end. We thank Royal Prince Alfred and Concord Hospitals for allowing Jack and I to stay for days and weeks at a time leading up to his passing.”
Slattery’s statement continued, “Please remember him as he was, in the words of Hellen Rose, a Cheeky Druid. He brought joy to our pain, light to our darkness, and a good dose of mischief.
“I have gone to great lengths to make his Music available everywhere possible. I will leave links in the comments for you to find them. Louis has donated his body to Science. There will be no funeral as such. But please stay tuned for news about his Memorial.”
Tillett released seven solo albums throughout his music career, with the most recent, Soliloquy, released in 2006. In 1995, Tillett and multi-instrumentalist Charlie Owen teamed up to release the album Midnight Rain, which won the Rolling Stone Critic’s Award for the Best Album in 1996.

What is "Torched Songs" about? Following the apartment fire in October 2018, still an unresolved case of Arson, Louis has been steadily recovering and restoring himself and his music. He has re-released The Ugly Truth on Vinyl, and now the classic Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell on CD. However, he did lose the majority of his CD and Vinyl stock in this fire...and has been planning to do a tour, and possibly an album, with Torched Songs in the title...as a reference to his burned music. And the time is nigh.

In 2020, he performed two nights at the Premier Jazz Club - The Camelot Lounge - just as severe Covid restrictions came into place. Since then he has awaited the opportunity to perform for those who couldn't make it to those nights, due to Health concerns.

On November 22, 2020 Louis was invited to play an Impromptu performance at this same venue, as part of the "Great Southern Nights" ARIA Initiative, to boost Live Music attendance in Australia.

The Camelot Lounge have been practicing Covid Safe Protocols and have once again invited Louis to return, in January 2021.

Although this Landmark Underground Album was reprinted twice, and sold tens of thousands of copies, back in the late 80s, demand for it has never halted.

The expression was from Louis' own mind, and has become a part of the Vernacular since 1987. In 2004, The Flaming Lips released an album of the same name, paying homage to Louis' music. This album was iconic in the 80s, especially in the Independent Music world. It received critical acclaim from John Peel (BBC Peel Sessions) and was lauded in all the influential Music Magazines of the time.

It was much loved because it broke all the rules...even in the Underground.

The project on Patreon is about sailing and writing and recording, all at sea.

The Full Moon in the month of March was the true beginning. In the previous 18 months, there were concerts with The Art of Darkness, and some solo gigs, and a lot of work setting the boat up as a floating studio.

There were some other unforeseen events which held up the work. However, Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere is proving to be very conducive to writing and recording.

Louis Tillett is alive, safe and as well as can be expected following a suspicious fire at his home address. Police are of course looking very seriously at this matter.

Most of his personal effects were wiped out, and much of his personal stock of CDs and Vinyls, and some of his precious Music memorabilia was lost. But most of his rare recordings, posters and Press releases from his 30 plus years of playing Music around the world, remain unscathed and salvaged from the ashes. This will be stored, along with the Master recordings already in the safe hands of the National Film and Sound Archives of Australia. And there will be a time when Louis, himself will be assisting them to catalog, curate and present this collection, as their priority to display his as a "Heritage Artist".
